Some people make history, others write it. But there is a rare handful who, in writing--and in speaking--make history. These are the ones who illuminate the issues, and in so doing move men to answer them with noble actions. - Joker Arroyo, paying tribute to Senator Jovito Salonga *** I found this quote the other night while reflecting on how the last time I voted was in 2004 yet! :O I voted for Raul Roco in the presidential elections then, and before that in 1998, Raul Roco still, and before that in 1992, Jovito Salonga. My choices obviously reflect that my priority criterion is integrity in any leader. After 2004, though, I just got fed up with the system and stayed away from it as much as I could. But I was a die-hard NAMFREL volunteer for almost 20 years, starting at age 17, when I couldnt vote yet, for the 1986 Snap Elections that led to the People Power Revolution! These past 8 months, though, through a writing project that got me closely involved again with the inner workings in the political world, I came face-to-face with my fears (of being used/taken for a ride) and prejudices and disgust against politicians again (I thought garbage collectors had more noble and important work than them!), and I was made to see that there are still sincere, honest leaders of integrity and humility working quietly and persistently for the common good. When I surrendered my life over to God carte blanche, Hes been making a clean sweep of EVERYTHING, to make me ALL BRAND-NEW! When God heals, God heals ALL, even my seemingly petty prejudices and biases against politicians! Imagine that. ☆
