Some roads in the tornado-affected areas may be blocked, making professional medical help hard or impossible to get. If you have a bad wound from debris, you need to know how to stop the bleeding. Heres an excerpt from the blog: Apply direct pressure. If it’s a cut finger, squeeze the wound with your other hand. With a larger area, push down with the base of your palm. Use a clean rag if available. Even if it’s a small artery, you can temporarily stop the bleeding by squeezing proximal (closest to the heart) to the wound. [For example, if the wound is on your lower arm, squeeze above it.] A tourniquet is a last resort. Direct pressure is always better if it works. Heres a video on stopping bleeding: thesurvivaldoctor/2011/11/15/video-how-to-treat-a-cut-part-1-how-to-stop-a-cut-from-bleeding/ The text excerpt is from: thesurvivaldoctor/2011/09/28/skin-lacerations-how-to-treat-a-cut-scrape-gash-stab-wound/ [Note: This update was posted by the The Survival Doctor staff and not vetted by Dr. Hubbard, who is away from computer and cell service.]
