Some then and now from the railroad overpass over US-31 between Charlevoix and Petoskey, Michigan along the shore of Little Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan. About 1/4 of the old grade is railtrail and the rest is privately owned and being reclaimed, including the bridge here. The railtrail roughly follows the line...sort of. The line was built by the Chicago & West Michigan, then owned by the Pere Marquette, but the bridge was built by the C&O in 1948. By this time the line was owned and operated by the Michigan Northern. Shortly after the picture was taken the line washed out and was ultimately abandoned. I did NOT take the before pictures, only the today photos.
