Some things we take for granted. Sight for one. The work that your vision center does to see what you see, including a well set Thanksgiving table, or the smile on the face of a family member, involves a complex set of actions. Consider this: Some Arizona elementary school students who were recently vision screened using our comprehensive vision screener called EyeSpy 20/20, passed the visual acuity portion of the test and failed both the distance and near stereo portions of the test. This could mean your child may not be able to see one of the years top movies: The Lego Movie. Stereopsis is depth perception. When a person with normal vision looks at any object, one eye sees it at an angle and the other eye sees it at a slightly different angle. The brain takes the two images and puts them together to create one picture. The two different images are what helps the brain see how near and far something is. This creates a 3-D effect. When one eye is not working properly (like with amblyopia), the brain only receives one image and can’t put two images together to see depth. These issues can be detected with early and annual quality screenings. Then steps can be taken to remedy the conditions. lego/en-us/movie
