Some thoughts on Clegg v Farage: good to have a political debate - TopicsExpress

Some thoughts on Clegg v Farage: good to have a political debate on issues, not personalities; too many facts on both sides unsubstantiated (a referendum would need to be preceded by a full investigation of the figures, from a variety of premises, by an independent body); Clegg made the better case in appealing to a positive vision (and so was the slight winner); Farage made reference to certain concepts (e.g. Anglo-Saxon heritage, Magna Carta, Britain ruled by British people etc) that, though having a certain meaning and value, require greater context and explanation to avoid sounding isolationist and out-dated; Farage failed to explain properly how a UK outside of the EU could be more dynamic, accountable and progressive than one within the Community; Clegg therefore managed to allow the safety first mantra of staying in to have the upper hand. Really looking forward to next week!
