Some thoughts on my music: I think I need to stop running away from the fact that Ive been heavily influenced (in terms of songwriting) and am deeply in love with commercial pop of the electronic and rock-influenced variety. As an artist, running away from this large part of myself is symbolic of a greater problem of non-acceptance of who I am. People who appreciate real music tend to put down pop music as though it has no substance, but the truth is: Although I love the new Roots album, am obsessed with people like Macklemore/J Cole/Watsky, listen to more genres than I can count, am usually the first to share indie bands, and could listen to James Blake all day - Chris Brown, Britney Spears, and N Sync secretly have a place in my heart with their music. Yes, some commercial music is rubbishy, but it takes skill and experience to create a song that sticks in your head for ages (can we say Call me Maybe?). So... TL;DR: Creating this 10-year-overdue debut album is going to be a rollercoaster ride.
