Some time next month, the 2015 issue of Lembas Extra will appear. It contains eight papers by Tolkien scholars from six different countries. In the coming weeks, each of these papers will be briefly introduced here. The first paper, by Franco Manni and Simone Bonechi (Italy), is titled The Complexity of Tolkiens Attitude towards the Second World War. Tolkien always denied that LotR was about World War II, loath to see it turned into an allegory. People generally assume that World War I had a much bigger influence on his work. The authors of this paper show that things are not that simple.
