Somehow, when meditating I often get distracted by these thoughts - TopicsExpress

Somehow, when meditating I often get distracted by these thoughts on how to describe meditation with a metaphor or analogy. So heres another one Ive been thinking of....dont take it all too literally, its a metaphor you know ;-) Imagine your brain is a maze, and your thoughts are persons in that maze. Lets concentrate on one thought at the time. So weve one person in a maze who tries to find its way around. This person needs to go from A to B, and by trial and error it will find a way. It will remember this and will take the same way every time. It does not know if its the most efficient way and if its actually needed to go this A to B route AT ALL. If you have no control about this person (your thought) it will do its A to B route regardless.... Now theres another important thing...without meditation you will think you ARE this person as in: you are what you think, you are your thoughts. It reminds me of the time I started meditating...my brain felt like a maze and I had no control whatsoever over my thoughts...no control over that person wandering around... Enter meditation: what meditation allows you to do is to detach yourself from that person in the maze, it allows you to detach yourself from your thoughts. Its like youre able to slightly hoover above the maze and look at it from above. Believe me, this equals super powers...theres so much that becomes easy now. For starters, you become more efficient it your thinking. Looking at it from above you know the fastest way around your maze...and you take out all UN-necessary people (thoughts) to free up space / bandwidth. This allows the other important people (thoughts) to move around even more quickly. The ultimate way to lift yourself above your maze is to cut out all thoughts. I think this is THE state to be in while meditating...no thoughts. This allows you to see even more of your maze, the higher youre able to lift yourself, the more it all becomes clear. I find cutting out all thoughts to be more difficult than just detaching myself from them...but...whatever works...and remember, looking at your maze IS a thought as well ;-)
