Someone asked me the other day, Why Lipizzans? and I dont think I - TopicsExpress

Someone asked me the other day, Why Lipizzans? and I dont think I gave a very sufficient answer. I think this video shows what I wasnt able to articulate. 1) the smoothness of the motion, like each joint contains a quart of oil; they just move so easily. Especially in the very beginning, when the horse is truly at liberty, its like gliding. The movement is not exaggerated, but its still showy. There are no hitches in the get-along. In comparison, for instance, Andalusian/PRE and a lot of Friesians have high action, but are jerky in their way of going. 2) the lightness of the steps; the Lipizzan just seems to barely touch the ground. So many comparable breeds seem to hit the ground so hard it shakes. 3) the kindness and trainability; Lipizzans love to be worked with and have lots of energy, but enjoy having the trainer direct that energy productively. The do easily rise on their hind end, offering the Airs, but do it always in a balanced and solid way. 4) the price; what is not shown here is that the Lipizzan is a good choice for the intermediate amateur of any equestrian discipline and typically priced in the USA in a range that anyone serious about their horse hobby can afford. They are not just dressage or carriage horses, but their marvelous characteristics make them happy and versatile in any endeavor.
