Someone asked me whether I thought we in the atheist movement need people that arent intellectuals as spokespeople. Whats wrong with being an intellectual? Is an intellectual someone that *knows* something? I dont see the problem with having people at the front of a movement that know things. We dont need a Sarah Palin. We dont. That simple. Why do we need someone to pander to the lowest common denominator? Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple non-intellectual atheists: David Silverman, Dan Barker, James Randi, Greta Christina, and Hemant Mehta. None are professors, and I dont think any hold a PhD. A lot of the more famous atheists tend to be intellectuals, but who cares?
