Someone asked me why support Congresswoman Terri Sewell for re-election: First she has a proven record of service: She has secured over $1.3 billion in federal grants for the 7th Congressional District since taking office including: *512 million in federal disaster assistance for 2011 tornadoes *10 million TIGER Grant for Birmingham *8 million for water and sewer improvement in the Black Belt (do you know that we still have citizens living in Alabama using septic tanks that empty into a nearby river in some counties) *3 million SAFER Grant to fund fire fighters in Montgomery. She has put constituent services first: *Helped constituents receive over $4 million in favorable Veterans Social Security and Disability benefits owed to them by the federal government since taking office. **Over 20,000 subscribers to legislative updates weekly “Guide to Grants” and monthly newsletters **Replied timely to over 30,000 letters and emails from constituents. She has hosted over 75 town hall meetings, forums and events since taking office including Annual “Congress in Your Community” Town Hall tour through all 14 counties of the district *Held Community Forums to help save Cooper Green Hospital **Held 5 Affordable Care Act enrollment workshops and a telephone town hall helping over 14,500 constituents get information and access to quality affordable healthcare **Immigration Forums to discuss comprehensive Immigration Reform and the negative effects of HB56. She has sponsored and passed the Congressional Gold Medal Bill honoring the “Four Little Girls” killed in the 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. Honored the Tuskegee Airmen and Montford Point Marines in district with Congressional Gold Medals. Fighting to restore the Voting Rights Act to ensure Alabama’s vulnerable communities are protected. Supporting the expansion of the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail to promote tourism and create jobs. And as far as job creation is concerned: She has help bring 650 Jobs at the Dollar General Distribution Center in Bessemer---300 jobs at Golden Dragon Copper Facility in Clark and Wilcox Counties ---Created a Workforce Development program called “Project READY” to help the unemployed get the skills they need for the jobs available in their area and hosted five “Project READY” workshops throughout the district ---Hosted annual Job Fairs in urban and rural parts of the district drawing over 7000 job seekers.
