Someone told me the other day that organic food is grown without pesticides. This is not quite true: they are allowed to use natural pesticides, which nobody thought to test for a long time because they just assumed "natural" would be better. Truth is, these pesticides are equally carcinogenic to the synthetic ones, and they may actually be worse for the environment than chemical ones. This is not to discourage anyone from buying organic, but rather to suggest that we need to redefine food classifications as we learn what really is best for us and the earth. Assuming "natural" is better and not testing that assumption is stupid. Poison ivy and arsenic are natural, too.
