Someone unfriended me before I was able to post the following comment, as part of a debate about the RBL, and the red and white poppies. If someone finds fighting against mindless violence offensive, I can do without them on my contacts list. This is a bit of a miss-mash of points too. Just because someone else is insane, joining in with them is not something you have to do. I am not a pacifist, but Im not a raving psychopath either. Fighting for a just world does not mean violence, it means raising and debating issues. That is what changes the world, and keeps fascism down, and it has to be kept down continuously. You cant just have one fight/war for a few years, and say Right, thats the nazis finished, because new ones will simply form in their place. It is the function of the state to protect its people, not to go around killing other people. Take the recent mindless celebrations in Bassett, for instance. Here we have a war fought against a few remote acts of violence, most of which there isnt a clear enemy to fight. So they go and kill and bunch of other people who arent any threat, and then tell us how great they are and how that protects us. As well as that, they treat it as some sort of game, making sure the Afghan tribesmen and farmers are well-trained and armed, otherwise it wouldnt be good sport/fun. There is also the requirement to save money by bringing down the price of oil. As a result of all this, theyve burned enough tax Dollars to nearly bankrupt the American government, put up the price of oil, and lost the war. Yeah, great job, guys.
