Someone who picked up a copy of my book at the Temech conf, sent - TopicsExpress

Someone who picked up a copy of my book at the Temech conf, sent me this story today. Totally felt I had to share: The day before I attended the conference, I bought a few items from a Mrs T’s Gmach and she looked unhappy. She told me that she helps local institutions for free, and they return damaged items and do not even offer to put things back. “I do not know if I can continue the Gmach.” That would be a real blow to many families who rely on it. The next day I was reading your new book and HaShem opened my eyes to the right pages – the idea that giving free items can be draining, and that we can pool our resources. Don’t compete, join up! After I coaxed Mrs T a little, who is used to giving giving giving, we made a plan. I approached the institutions and outlined the new Gmach policy – anyone using the Gmach must leave a deposit. Within two weeks all items are returned intact or fixed, and they must supply five hours of organizing help. Mrs T keeps the deposit if these conditions are not fulfilled within two weeks. One place was receptive, “we would love to help Mrs T, she just never asked!” Another tried to bargain me down. I felt myself wavering a little, so I cut the conversation short and later called them back firmly stating the new policy. Women have thanked me for supporting Mrs. T and helping families save hundreds of shekels a year via her Gmach. If my efforts kept the Gmach open, then the investment in book was well worth it.
