Something I have always believed is that religious texts are created by those in power at the time to tell their preferred version. In much the same way as history is written by the victors. The point is - the only people who really know what happens in any situation are those that see it with their own eyes. What if the bible is not word for word correct? What if all religions texts were treated as beautiful works of art but not something to fight about which one is the correct one and only? Wouldnt it be a great thing if we dropped religious history in favour of finding spiritual common ground and ideas that all humans agreed upon. Such as do unto others... I hope one day religious leaders get over their petty playground power games. Perhaps then the killing would cease.
