Something I posted on a LinkedIn procurement discussion forum: Those who preach that you have to spend a lot, especially via using monopolistic buying habits, are probably lacking in adequate skills in whatever their primary field might be. Id argue that this throw more money at it logic can be found in any walk of life, and that the attempt to instill fear of under-spending is usually a mask for incompetence, laziness, corruption, or all of the above. Im reminded of an old slogan from the construction business. You can choose 2 out of 3 between good, fast, and inexpensive. Good and inexpensive wont be fast therefore, and you can liken fast to mean quickly and sloppily executed. So if we want to have both good and inexpensive in the construction industry, that can be done, but we need highly skilled and honest people, and well planned execution, to make that happen.
