Something I wrote on the Knoxville comedy Facebook group: ---------------- Hi everyone. Some of you know me, some of you dont. My name is Steve Hofstetter, and Im the managing partner of the group that will be running Side Splitters. We are thrilled to be a part of the Knoxville comedy scene - Ive performed there a few times over the years, including back when it was still a Comedy Zone. Our group consists of myself, Chris Bowers (cruise director), Jamie Utley (promotional machine), Todd McComas (the one everyone likes), Adam Norwest (booking dynamo), and Tony Deardorff (Food & Beverage expert). We are 5 comics and a bar manager - together, I think we run a damn good club (we own and operate Mortys in Indianapolis, the Laughing Derby in Louisville, and Wileys in Dayton as of Oct 1. Adam also owns the Tacoma Comedy Club). We did not buy Side Splitters - yet. We have come in as a management company, with a contract through Jan 1. Our intent is to buy the place - but we need to make sure that a comedy club in Knoxville is a viable enterprise. We hope that you, as the local comics, believe that enough to help. We will be running local talent nights different than youve ever seen. We will be establishing MC residency programs, where someone can MC for 3 weeks straight with the intent that theyre doing it to learn how to feature. There will be public writing sessions, where comedians can help each other grow. And Adam books 4 other clubs, and I host and produce a television show on Fox, so the ability for growth is there. Those that know us know that we run comic friendly clubs. We do not run complaining, bitter slacker friendly clubs. Some of you will quickly figure out that we love motivation and we hate ego. Others of you will complain that we dont understand your genius, and were the reason youre not famous yet. Some of you will quickly get promoted from the level youve been on. Others will be demoted. We are running a different club than those before us, which will be good for some and bad for others. Most of all, it will be a TOUGH club to get passed at - because it will be a worthwhile club to get passed at. But there will be a place for everyone who earns a place. It is in our best interest to churn out great comedians from this scene. To that end, we will be having an all comedians meeting on Saturday, September 13th at 2PM at the club. Come by so you can hear the vision we have for the future, and voice any concerns and contribute any ideas. If you skip it without a good reason, you wont have much of a leg to stand on to complain in the future. I hope this helps answer a lot of questions. And I hope we can answer the rest on Saturday. In the meantime, please tell your friends that a full-time comedy club isnt leaving Knoxville any time soon. They can use the code PHOENIX at knoxvillestandup for free tickets to any show this month so they can see what were about. And as long as there are seats open, admission is always free for comedians. This weekend, 5 of the 6 owners will be there in person, so please come hang. Thanks for reading. Hugs.
