Something for people to consider. In the era of gangsters, there - TopicsExpress

Something for people to consider. In the era of gangsters, there were a great many cops who were corrupt and taking bribes. The Untouchables were a group of special agents, marshalls, and civilians who were put together specifically to deal with the gangsters. But in the aftermath of that, it was determined that the police needed a checks and balances system. Two agencies were established, though not at the same time. Of these two agencies, the Department of Internal Affairs, which directly monitors and investigates the police themselves, was set up to catch corrupt cops, those who abused their badge and used it to commit crimes, and the like. The other was created for the sole purpose of monitoring political criminals. Politicians, the President, and Supreme Court fell under their jurisdiction. It was their sole responsibility to keep the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches honest. That agency exists to this very day, though it was shifted from its stated duties to an entirely different set of principles. That agency is the Central Intelligence Agency, and their stated duty is to keep politicians from committing crimes.
