Something interesting I learned today: "Veterinarians noticed - TopicsExpress

Something interesting I learned today: "Veterinarians noticed that, paradoxically, cats that fell from higher floors typically had fewer and less severe injuries than those that fell from lower floors. The key to this mystery was discovered in high-speed video footage of a cat actually falling. What became clear is that a fall from a greater height provided sufficient time for the cat not only to right itself but also to flatten and spread out to maximize air resistance and reduce terminal velocity. The cat then relaxes its muscles prior to impact, which reduces the stress load to the limb bones, decreasing the risk of injury or breakage. Falling from lower heights does not provide sufficient time to accomplish all of these bodily preparations for the landing." Oh MCAT questions...
