Something ive been breaking my mind on for a while. How could any engineer ever have made anything out of these flabby sounding samples? The Oberheim DMX (and many other drum machines) was used for a lot of hits (e.g. Madonna - into the groove). Ive tried (but maybe not enough) to mold the original samples to something close to the record versions but it doesnt come close in any way. In my opinion the masters that crafted these hit records were able to give life and musicality to these dull sounding drums. Did they have so much more gear, knowhow and magic that it is impossible for a mortal like me to come even close? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberheim_DMX
