Something really sad happened in our family this past Wednesday at 5:03 AM. My mothers loving, devoted partner of 9 years Harry Peters passed away. Harry was very dear to me also - like a 2nd father to me and a 2nd grandpa to my 4 children - he was a wonderful guy with a gruff exterior but with a heart of gold. He was the head carpenter at Rikers Island for 60 years and worked right up until he got sick. He would do anything for anyone just to make them happy. Like a father he helped me understand how to fix my house pipes, car, carpentry and electrical problems and took the time and care to draw diagrams for me to try to help me understand the solution. His funeral was yesterday and he was buried today next to his mother whose grave he visited every week with flowers. We are very sad and already missing him terribly.
