Something that has been inferred in other threads, and even begun - TopicsExpress

Something that has been inferred in other threads, and even begun to be discussed, but not fully, is the psychological aspect of blindness, in ourselves, especially later in life, and our families. For those affected later in life, I suggest counseling. I know I became very depressed after losing my eyesight, and although I have overcome it, I know my parents, who Thank G-d are still alive, have trouble accepting and dealing with it. For a short time, I dated a blind woman, who every time she ran into difficulty, would start screaming American with Difficultys Act, which was quite often inappropriate, but I found quite embarrassing. This is not to say that all situations, standing up for rights is not appropriate, but before someone has time to make accommodations was just plain wrong. How do you deal with difficulties, especially with those who are uneducated in the ways of the blind, and parents, who dont understand and become over-bearing with trying to assist you, without hurting their feelings, which seem to become more fragile with age
