Something to think and talk about... serious information to talk about with your pet sitter. Emergencies happen- that is why they are emergencies! Discuss what extent you would like to go- if your comfortable with them making decisions for your pets? Or have your veterinarian making choices on your behalf. Call and give us a heads up youre going on holiday- who will be looking after your pet- leave a credit card number- or any info you want us to be aware of- just in case! For example- I babysat for Sienna while she went away. Cooper is her baby. He is 10 years old and was recently diagnosed as a diabetic. Sienna had an entire list written up for me. I had his feeding amounts, his most recent blood glucose levels, his treats he was allowed and a timeline of when he was to receive his medications. Even on my list was if he was to get sick or decline- how far we should proceed with him. And worst case scenario- if he actually were to pass away while she was away- that she would want him cremated and his ashes returned in a cedar box with his name. I also babysat my friends wiener dog and she was horrified and got mad that I asked her what she would want me to do in case of emergency! I had to explain to her that I needed to know what she would choose because I would not want to make the wrong choice on her behalf. You never think to ask- but if youre the pet sitter you should know what to do.
