Sometime in December, I had made a post about the near absence of visible dividends of governance in Kogi State. Some of the governors vociferous supporters (like AVL) were on the thread. They demanded to know what I meant by no signs of development in Kogi, they posited that on the contrary a LOT was going on and I had CHOSEN not to see. But then, someone called me. Spent quite some time speaking. He told me I was right. I couldnt see anything not because the state government wasnt working, but because the projects Wadas administration had embarked upon werent short term. He talked about agriculture especially rice production and how that would impact the economy of the state. We spoke about some other projects that left me impressed at the end of the call. One of the reasons I lost faith in Wadas leadership was the allegation that the state government deducted heavy sums from local governments allocation leaving staff of LGs in the state with sometimes, less than half salaries in some cases and months of unpaid salaries in others. Wada was quoted as denying this earlier in the year. LG chairmen have got to provide answers regarding accountability. How much comes in? What do they expend it on? Its inconceivable for grassroot governance to have become so impotent. Defeats the purpose of a three tier-system of governance. Now that Wada is finally done with legal battles, I hope governance is taken a lot more seriously and he gets to actually re-relocate his partial relocation to Abuja back to Lokoja. It is my hope that Governor Wada is able to pilot the affairs of Kogi State well and make her citizens remember him positively for a long time. Dear Capt Ichalla, Kogites count on you to deliver. Please, do!
