Sometimes I feel as though we as Black men in society have - TopicsExpress

Sometimes I feel as though we as Black men in society have forgotten our roles. Not all of us but a lot of us have. It’s sort of like Simba from the movie Lion King…After Mufasa (his father, representation of fatherhood, role model, and direction) died Simba got lost in the wilderness forgetting that he was supposed to be King. There’s a number of reasons for the black male struggle in society and to be quite honest I don’t think anyone will truly truly understand what it is like unless you live the life of a black boy attempting to go from a boy to a man. Between mass incarceration, police harassment, homicide, employment struggle, constant demonizing of character, lack of role models, exploitation, a society that attempts to emasculate every chance it gets, and negative media influenced stereotypes. It has the whole world scared of the black male thinking he’s nothing but a menace to society. This post is not for a pity party or an excuse for what needs to be done. This post is a reminder to Black men of what your purpose is supposed to be. PROTECT your family and protect your community. Man’s role has always been to protect since the beginning hunter and gatherer stages. TEACH, a man is supposed to be a teacher someone the youth can look to for direction. BUILD, we are supposed to build our community not destroy it. Building the community involves action to ensure the community is always moving in the best direction. Last but not least LOVE. Love yourself, your children, and your community… Love, Respect, Protect, and Care for the Black woman. Black man, Black boy know your self-worth…
