Sometimes Red Sox Nation is a little too ignorant for my taste. - TopicsExpress

Sometimes Red Sox Nation is a little too ignorant for my taste. Fact #1: Gomes, Victorino, Drew, and Napoli werent brought in to win a Championship in 2013. They were brought in on short money and short contracts to put butts in seats while the real work was to beign acquire talent/assets in the minors. Fact #2: Although winning the championship was amazing, it was not intended and it hasnt stopped the Sox front office or Ben Cherrington from sticking their guns. Rebuilding is tough and most GMs dont have the guts to do and usually lose their jobs because of it. Not Ben Cherrington. Fact #3: Larry Lucchino is an asshole. Fact #4: The Sox didnt blow any negotiations with Lester. The offered 4yrs and 70MM to Lester in spring training. Lester nor his representation ever countered the offer. Sox came back 3 weeks ago with another offer that as never countered. Lester didnt negotiate because he knows his value is only going up, Up, UP! Fact #5: Lester was never going to sign this season. He is a young arm, a lefty, and a fireballer. He and his representation realized that he is a 2-time world series winning ace who is entering the prime of his career. He doenst want Homer Bailey money, the dude wants Max Scherzer money. He has only increased his value by having his best statistical season in the majors and now will increase his value again by pitching in the playoffs for the As. Fact #6: Lester will only resign with the Sox if they give him market value for an ace lefty that pays him around 24-26MM annually over 5-7 years. Lester will probably sign with the team who pays him the most (NY?) Fact #7: Yoenis Cespedes is not good, he is great. He has a howitzer for an arm and can hit and will hit in Fenway Park. Fact #8: Larry Lucchino is still an asshole. Fact #9: Allen Craig is > Daniel Nava, Jonny Gomes, Jackie Bradley, Mike Carp and my Great Uncle Harry. Fact #10: Joe Kelly is a decent back of the rotation guy now w/upside to a 2 or 3 starter. Lackey was going to be an offseason problem with his contract. You can also flip Kelly to the pen where he has dominated in the past. Fact #11: The Sox now have an embarrassment of riches when it come to young arms: Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster, Henry Owens, Anthony Renaudo, and Eduardo Garcia. These guys all project top of the rotation stuff. Throw Workman in to and you have the beginnings of a great young staff that you control for the forseeable future. Yes, there will be growing pains. Be patient. Fact #12: Larry Lucchino is a real big asshole. Fact #13: The Red Sox didnt have to do this. They print money over at Fenway, they could sign every free agent like the Yankees and have really old team with players that used to be good (Teixeira, CC, Jeter, AROID, McCann, Beltran, etc). The didnt have to do this, but it was the smarter play to build a contending frachise for years to come. Fact #14: The Red Sox are committed to building a bright future and are making the right moves. They will still have the money to bring in some quality free agents (including Lester if they want to spend big) and have the assets to make a trade should a talent hitter become available (Carlos Gonzalez, etc). Cherrington has succesful completed his task of undoing what Theo did in his last two years. The is the swan song to his Dodgers trade. That worked out pretty good for the Sox and so will this. Fact #15. I am from Seattle. I know shitty baseball and poor team management more than I want to. If I had the opportunity and the chance, I would take Ben Cherrignton out and buy him a few rounds. That guy has done a hell of a job!
