Sometimes, at the tail-end of boozy nights @ The Matchbox, truth - TopicsExpress

Sometimes, at the tail-end of boozy nights @ The Matchbox, truth can be discovered. I was working with Jay Spillane @ the time and his buddy Mike from back home in Massachusetts was in town.(Is that spelled right? Seems like a lot of letters. Like..jazz-hands.) Anyway, this kid is a BIG dude. 66 or so and powerfully built. An athlete. Played some ball in school. I did too. Not well. Heres why.. See, we got to discussing what it takes to make an accurate throw from the outfield to home plate. It seems an easy thing, right? Fairly routine in professional baseball. Its a kids game, after all. The best way to prove this was clearly with a couple of good baseball-sized lemons. So, we ventured out onto Ogden Ave. (Damien Reynolds..God rest his Soul..was our spotter/line judge) and I took a running start and heaved that lemon with everything I had. On a rope straight for Windy City Cafe. (I hope I dont break a window!!! Ill feel terrible!) That thing fluttered out of my hand and quit like I owed it money. Barely made it past the El stop @ Chicago. I think thats like thirty feet. I dont know. Im not a scientist. Mike, in turn, took his lemon and, with one effortless stride, sent that golden-yellow orb sailing into obsidian night like it was meant for Zeus. I didnt even see it come down, but it probably landed in someones yard over on May Street and made a tree. And, that, my beauties..is athleticism. You cant teach it. Its a gift. An amazing gift. Which is why I hate Jay Cutler so much. See how I brought that back to the Bears? Yeah, Im still mad.
