Sometimes when I ASK My Mother the most common questions, I gain more and more respect for her uncommon struggle. I asked her, Do you remember what you were doing when you found out JFK was assassinated? In the field snapping corn, she said. A girl got off of the school bus and said, They killed President Kennedy. She replied, Who is President Kennedy? See, 50 yrs ago on this day the only thing my mother had on her agenda was which field they would clear that day, and the day after, and everyday that preceded it going back to 9th grade, when she left school to help my grandfather share crop. They had, nor ever seen any TV and school, after her 5th grade year, was something they attended after December or when it rained. She had no reason or way of knowing, or caring who our govt officials was. Now I see why she was what I considered a work-a-holic, she got her first taste at or before she was 10 and was purging on it like a lush until she escaped to NY in 1964. Today she tells me, how she was offered another job, although she has been retired for several years. Talking about Relapse!!!!!! I Love and respect My Mother for her struggle and the sacrifices she has endured unbeknownst to me as a youth. Thanksgiving is coming; This year Im giving thanks for My Mom!!!!!
