Sometimes when environmental groups cry wolf there really is (or should be) pause for concern and remedial action. As this guest editorialist points out for years and years various groups and concerned citizens had raised a red flag about leaking Duke Energy Coal Ash Pits. More often than not they were met with resistance from the very governmental agency charged with the responsibility to safeguard against threats to the environment. Something is wrong with this picture. At some point soon and hopefully before we welcome gas fracking exploration to North Carolina that our political leaders and those in charge of governmental agencies will consider the perils of continuing to cause damage to Mother Earth in the name of progress because what it really boils down to is there are really some things that are even more important than money.
