Sometimes you just need to get away for a few days. So we headed - TopicsExpress

Sometimes you just need to get away for a few days. So we headed into the west Texas sun to Big Bend National Park (well in this photo, I had to turn around to get it because it was rising in the east). We enjoyed the scenery- it was no Yellowstone National Park, but we spoiled ourselves on that one. There were definitely beautiful vistas and the Chisos Basin was especially nice. But the highlight of the past few days came this afternoon. We raced back to Driftwood to attend the Buda-Kyle congregations area wide singing. There we were truly uplifted and edified as we sang with the saints, offering the fruit of our lips to God. One specific moment (of the many) in which I was brought to tears was when my Granddad led the song, Living By Faith. He was not pre-selected during the planning stages to lead a song (as was necessary to ensure an orderly even), but my father was selected to lead two. In an act of humility, though some men would relish the opportunity to lead a song at an event such as this, my Dad (John) asked the organizer of the event if Granddad could lead his second song. Grandad had been coming to this venue (Camp Ben McCullough) for many, many years. Carnivals, family reunions, rallies, and other such events have been held here over the years, in which he has been a part. But before he led the song he made mention of his opinion: that no other event that had been held here could compare to this one. As I sat and sang with my brothers and sisters, I couldnt help but be encouraged and think about the great example my Granddad has been to so many over the years. His name isnt in lectureship books or brotherhood magazines. To my knowledge, hes never held a Gospel Meeting or traveled the country to preach at various places. He is simply a Christian who has served as an elder for many years, shepherding the flock and caring for souls. I will cherish this memory forever. How many more years and memories of Grandad I will have, I do not know. But Im thankful- so very thankful for the ones I do have. Im thankful for my Grandfather(s). Im thankful for my Grandmothers. Im thankful for my Father. And Mother. And wife. And brothers. And aunts, and uncles, and cousins and so many more that were in attendance today. Thank you Buda-Kyle for hosting this event and putting so much work into it. I know God truly was glorified and praised. I look forward to many more, Lord willing. Bobby Nikki Burris
