Sometimes you just need to have a good talk with yourself. Ive had to do that quite often. The reason is because if you become a passive listener self will do all the talking. If you allow self to dictate the topic of conversation fear, anxiety and depression are sure to follow. Self always blows things out of proportion. And often jumps to wrong conclusions. A good example was when the disciples were caught out in the middle of a storm in the middle of a lake. When all of a sudden they spotted a figure coming towards them walking on the water. Instead of hoping for the best they started to fear the worst because self convinced them that they were seeing a ghost when it was Jesus coming to help them. It happens all the time. The kids are late coming home and self suggests something bad has happened to them. The doctors office calls wanting to run another test and you are stricken with fear that they suspect cancer. The boss says that he wants to talk to you and you worry that you might be laid off. Ghosts! When self takes control it is always bad news. In chapter forty-two the Psalmist has a conversation with himself by twice asking the same questions. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why are you so disturbed within me? After having asked himself the same questions the second time he says to himself. Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him my Savior and my God. What a difference it makes when you take control of the conversation instead of letting self do all the talking. In chapter 103 the Psalmist said to himself, Praise The Lord 0 my soul and all that is within me praise His holy name. From the perspective of self everything is doom and gloom. If you listen to self you will mope around singing the blues. Take charge! Talk to yourself and rise above your disturbing circumstances. Praise The Lord O my soul and forget not all His benefits. #woodswitandwisdom
