SongwriterStage is the new Songwriters Showcase featuring local and regional performing singer/songwriters in the round at Timothys, Charlestons new live music venue devoted on Tuesdays to the original songs of the Tri-States many talented singer/songwriters. Next Tuesday night, May 20, 2014, SongwriterStage will kick off its inaugural event with Ron Sowell, Todd Burge and Ritch Collins. The show starts at 7 PM and will go until 10 PM. Come to Timothys, enjoy a cocktail, wine or beer in Chalestons best kept secret, the listening room at Timothys beneath the Quarrier Diner; 1022 Quarier Street; Charleston. There is abundant parking and an elevator for your convenience! Best known for his role as the musical director of Mountain Stage, Ron Sowell is also a dynamic singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist and performer. He has traveled all over the world playing with well-known performers like Lyle Lovett, Kathy Mattea and Sarah McLachlan. Ron is the founder and musical director of the Woody Hawley Concert Series, bringing notable singer/songwriters to the stage in Charleston as well as allowing local/regional artists to share the stage with these national artists as aopening act. Ron as brought a multitude of artists to the Woody Hawley Concert Series including: Paul Thorne; Tim OBrien; Bryan Sutton; Susan Werner; Mollie OBrien and Rich Moore; Craig Carouthers: Don Henry; Jon Vezner; Michael Johnson; Beth Nielsen Chapman; Johnsmith; Cary Cooper and Tom Prasada-Rao. Ron recently released the CD, Little Movies to add to his catalog. WV Troubadour, Todd Burge, has played everything from Alternative Rock to Bluegrass, but is mainly known for the sharp wit, soaring vocal and guitar prowess found in many of his songs while performing his hybrid brand of Contemporary Americana and Folk. He has performed venues as diverse as CBGB’s, The Country Music Hall of Fame and the Kennedy Center. Todd is a driving force in the music scene in Parkersburg as well as Marietta, Ohio. He has played with and recorded with numerous musical greats, most recently Tim OBrien, Don Dixon and Mollie OBrien. Ritch Collins lives in Ashland, Kentucky, where he serves as technical director of the Paramount Theater. Ritch is also an audio engineer for NPR’s Mountain Stage radio show and co-producer of the Highway 23 Jamboree. A third-generation musician, Ritch plays guitar and sings with the Ritch Collins Three-O. The Ritch Collins Three-O is a musical venture preserving the hot string band sounds of the 20s and 30s. The group plays an eclectic mix of folk, blues, jazz, swing, and country. Ritch is equally at home on the stage, whether he is playing solo, in his band or with any of the memorable acts he has accompanyed over the years. Ritch is seen annually in Charleston as a guitarist with the Hank Williams Tribute Concert, featuring: John Lilly; Rob McNurlin; Kayton Roberts; Buddy Griffin; Roger Carrol; and other equally talented artists.
