Sons of law or sons of God? John 1:17 For the law was given - TopicsExpress

Sons of law or sons of God? John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. The law is the standard by which we judge our relationship with God. The law was a taskmaster; one who was to train those under the law to become sons and daughters. Every wealthy Jewish family hired the very best taskmaster to train up their child to have the heart of the father of the house. After years of training, the taskmaster presented the son to the father. The father then, in a ceremony of adoption, received the heart of the son to the father. Jewish adoption was not taking one from outside of the family, but a son within the family and receiving the formed (by the task master) heart of the son to the father. The father would then receive the son, who then had the same heart—values, destiny, will, and desire—of the father. The son would then receive a signet ring and have the same power and authority as the father in all the matters of the father. Whereas the law was unable to form us into sons and daughters of God, it is a gauge that the Holy Spirit (the real taskmaster) uses to help us gauge our relationship with the Father. We are not obedient to the law, but to the Holy Spirit. The law is simply the very minimum that indicates the presence of relationship. Jesus brought grace—the supernatural desire and ability. He also brought truth—what God knows versus what our situation or circumstances tell us. Jesus ascended to the Father, but in His stead the Holy Spirit remains. Holy Spirit is the spirit of grace and truth. It is He who is our loving taskmaster who trains us to have and keep the heart of the Father.
