Sony Beach Hop 14 - NEWSLETTER! Sony Beach Hop 14 – EPIC! Well what can we say? Sony Beach Hop 14 was in our opinion the best yet with perfect weather, a huge turnout of amazing cars, record attendances each day, seamless cruises, friendly atmosphere, non stop night cruising, massive crowds and tons of smiling faces everywhere we looked. That just about sums up the event! We’ve had debriefs and the Police are happy, the Council are happy, the local businesses are happy, the sponsors are happy and we are happy too. There were so many highlights it’s hard to mention them all. Waihi’s community spirit to make “their” day so special. Having Bill Haley Jnr as our guest at the Repco Tairua Beach Party. The Castrol Edge Thundercruise to Onemana was idyllic with Greg Murphy in his 69 Dodge and Euan Mark in his drag race T Bucket leading the parade. We’ve gone from 9 retro caravans 4 years ago to a WHOPPING 85 at this year’s Vintage Caravan Magazine Retro Caravan Show! Our guest judges – Shane Cortese, Jennie Skulander, Graham Bell and Murf were a pleasure to work with. The prize draws saw new owners of 3 classic cars and a retro caravan. It was perfect. And how can we forget the music? World class in every performance! The Sprockets made up of 12 year olds blew everyone away, The Hiboys from Australia ! rocked the Palms each night, and Brien & The Blackouts from New York amazed people with their performances. A big thanks to all the bands – YOU ROCK! Our thanks to our wonderful “blue smurf” crew, sponsors who support us every year, and entrants many of whom come back year after a year, but then also to the many 1st timers who we hope have caught the “Hop Bug” and we’ll see again next year. We’ve seen some of the work they’ve done so far and it blew us away – this is a quality publication over 100 pages and a must have for anyone who attended the Festival. Entrants will be sent their own copy via the post – we’ll let you know when. Event Media Coverage How lucky are we in New Zealand? 1 week after the event and 2x magazines are in the newsagents with amazing coverage of the festival. Congratulations to NZV8 magazine and NZ Rodder – you must have really burnt the midnight oil to get the magazines out so quickly! We had to pinch ourselves when reading them… Also coming up will be NZ Hot Rod magazine, Petrolhead plus Vintage Caravan Magazine and we can’t wait to read them as well! V8 Supercars – 60 Cars Wanted! For the 4th year in a row we have been invited by the management of the V8 Supercars to arrange a display of 60x Sony Beach Hop 14 entrant cars for 2 days during the upcoming V8 Supercars race at the Pukekohe Raceway 26/27 April. You will receive 2x event passes and get to do a parade lap in front of the crowd on Sunday. Regular Beach Hop band the Recliner Rockers will be performing at the car show both days. We’ll select the best 60 cars to represent us… Kiwis On Route 66 Our intrepid team member Noddy Watts is about to return to the USA with another 40 Kiwis to do the ultimate road trip – cruising Route 66.They will be taking in the Mustang’s 50th Anniversary Celebrations & Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Show in Las Vegas during Easter. The Kiwis On Route 66 Aug/Sept tour still has a couple of spare spots and includes the fantastic “Cruising Route 66 Reunion Car Show” & “Mustangs at the Queen Mary” events.
