Sony MDR-ZX100 Stereo Headphones (Part 2) Pocket Radio Destiny. Pocket Radio Domination. Pocket Radio Supremacy. Pocket Radio Hegemony. Pocket Radio Paradise. Pocket Radio Performance. Pocket Radio MVP. Pocket Radio Hall of Fame. Pocket Radio Icon. Pocket Radio Perfection on the Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio is the consumer electronics industrys best performing pocket radio. It has a flawless design, implementation and reception of radio broadcasts. I enjoy listening to this pocket radio just as much as any larger portable item in my personal radio assortment. A morning sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean, a hot cup of coffee, a warmed croissant, the fresh scent of the morning newspaper and a Brahms symphony playing gently in the background on Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones. This is a marvelous pocket audio product, offering a superior portable design, reception range and expert craftsmanship as well. This product is designed to persevere throughout the years. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio can withstand less than ideal weather conditions and subpar operating environments on a consistent basis. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio offers two distinct listening options. A formidable 2.25-inch monaural speaker provides big booming sound on FM music stations. Classical music, classic rock, rhythm and blues, jazz, country, oldies, reggae and disco music are enjoyable and superbly reproduced across the FM Band. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio provides clear, well-defined and marked voice tone on my favorite AM Band talk radio programs. I find that the weekday mornings public affairs, health, business, world news, technology, popular culture, science, arts, comedy, movie review, sports talk, newsmaker author interviews and auto repair programs feature accurate reception on the AM Band. The audio emitted from the speaker is on par or better than larger portable radios that I have heard. The monaural speaker provides depth and clarity of sound without distortion. A convenient Earphone Jack is provided on the left side of the pocket radio for any occasion when private listening on the Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones is desired. The speaker is disabled when the Earphone Jack is in use. AM and FM tuning are a breeze with the Tuning Knob. The Tuning Dial is accurately calibrated for all local stations on the AM/FM bands. This Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio receives 50,000 Watt Clear Channel Communications Stations with incredible precision across the AM Band. Weak signal adjacent channel broadcast reception on either band is very good throughout the day. The front panel LED TUNE indicator lights up in bright red when a station is accurately locked in. Station-drift is not an issue with this Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio. I never feel the need to readjust the Tuning Knob once the LED indicator is lit. I dont have to retune the pocket radio when its turned off and then powered on again to recapture the last station listened to. This Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio is always there for me when I want to listen to the ballgame, weather forecast, traffic report, stock market update or a newscast when I cant be near a TV. The ferrite bar antenna and telescopic whip antenna enable this Sony ICF-S10MK2 2 Band Pocket Radio to offer exceptional sensitivity and selectivity reception on the AM/FM Bands. I dont need to reorient the horizontal position of the pocket radio frequently or extend the telescopic antenna to achieve satisfactory local AM/FM reception. I am able to receive out-of-market AM Band stations on most winter, spring and fall nights when clear atmospheric conditions are present. The AM or FM bands can be changed when this pocket radio is powered off by toggling the Band Selector Switch. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio offers exemplary battery life while listening on the Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio is powered by 2 AA alkaline batteries that are difficult to deplete. The batteries are not included in the packaging. The AA batteries must be installed in reverse polarity inside the battery compartment. It is a rare event when the Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radios batteries need to be replaced. I recommend Duracell Ultra Power DURALOCK Power Preserve, Duracell Coppertop DURALOCK Power Preserve, Duracell Quantum DURALOCK Power Preserve, Rayovac Ready Power or Energizer Max Power Seal Technology AA alkaline batteries, Energizer Advanced Lithium or Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries for maximum audio performance and battery life of this elite pocket radio. Battery life will be shortened proportionately if the pocket radio is played back at higher volumes for an extended time period. The AA batteries should be removed from the pocket radio when placed into storage for 30 days or longer. New and old AA batteries should not be used in the battery compartment. A mix of different battery brands or different battery types inside the battery compartment is not recommended. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio is compatible with the following 1.5V AA or equivalent battery types: carbon-zinc, alkaline, lithium and NiMH (1.2V 2,300-2,700 mAh capacity recommended) rechargeable batteries. A lithium battery is approximately 33% lighter in weight compared to a standard alkaline battery. The total weight of the Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio will be affected by the chemical composition of AA batteries inserted into the battery compartment. The TUNE LED serves as this portable’s battery life indicator. The AA batteries are consumed when the red LED becomes dimly lit or sound quality deteriorates rapidly. The pocket radio cant be operated on AC power. The super high-performance features offered by this Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio are: analog tuner, variable frequency oscillator, tuning capacitor, monaural power amplifier, thumbwheel Tuning Knob, AM/FM Dial Scale, AM/FM Log Scale, AM Band Tuning Dial Guide (5.3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13, 16 x 100 KHz), FM Band Tuning Dial Guide (88, 92, 96, 100, 104, 108 MHz), Orange Tuning Marker, Red LED Power On/Tuning Lock indicator, AM/FM Reception, AM Band Frequency Range: 530-1605 kHz, FM Band Frequency Range: 87.5-108 MHz, AM Band IF Tuned Circuit: 455 kHz, FM Band IF Tuned Circuit 10.7 MHz, AM/FM Band Selector Switch, rotary OFF (Power)/Volume Dial, OFF (Power)/Volume Dial Up/Down directional arrow indicator, tuning dial pointer drive mechanism, 2.25-inch (57 mm or 5.7 cm) diameter monaural speaker, 8-ohm impedance rated mono speaker, perforated speaker grill, speaker cabinet, speaker magnet, 100mW (JEITA Measurement Standard) total amplifier output power at 10% T.H.D., audible click Power ON/OFF function, 3.5mm Monaural Earphone Jack for connection to the Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones, monaural earphone amplifier, universal earphone jack symbol, 1.9-inch built-in ferrite bar AM Band antenna, 17.5-inch FM Band telescopic whip antenna, black nylon carry strap affixed to left side panel, DC spring-loaded AA battery contact terminals, positive/negative battery terminals, detachable battery cover with interior protective foam padding, battery cover removal downward directional arrow, rear panel battery compartment, rear panel air vent, one rear panel antenna case screw, one case screw inside the battery compartment, 3V DC Power Rating, solid plastic construction, two bottom panel plastic feet for secure placement on a table, Part 15 F.C.C. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radios adjustable telescopic antenna provides for more precise FM Band reception. The FM whip antenna offers height adjustment in 6-segment increments, multidirectional movement and its positioned on the left side panel. The left side panel is slightly recessed with an antenna placement holder so that the FM antenna recedes perfectly when it is placed into its default position. The ferrite bar antenna allows for horizontal movement of the pocket radio to improve AM Band broadcasts. Medium Wave (MW) coverage can be expanded upon indoors with an external Omni-directional passive antenna. For example, the Terk AM Indoor Advantage Antenna uses a wireless electromagnetic procedure known as inductive coupling to improve AM Band reception by placing the antenna in close proximity to the Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio. The operating instructions are printed on back of the packaging. The product packaging includes a Sony limited warranty statement card insert. The physical dimensions are: Width: 2-7/8, Height: 4-¾, Depth: 1-3/16, (71 x 118.5 x 30 mm w/h/d) and Weight: 7 ounces (202 g) with alkaline batteries installed. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio includes a one year parts and labor limited manufacturer warranty. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio is made in China (PRC). The recessed monaural earphone jack will only permit the user to hear audio out of the left side of Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones. This issue can be corrected by connecting a 3.5mm monaural-male-to-3.5mm-stereo-female headphone mini plug adapter to the pocket radios 3.5mm Earphone Jack. I recommend Sony MDR-ZX100/BLK Stereo Headphones to achieve hi-fi private listening on the Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio. Sony has produced a perfect pocket radio. Radio reception varies depending on the physical location of this pocket radio. Customers living in big cities will receive more AM/FM stations compared to consumers living in rural areas. Moving a Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio closer to a window and away from devices that emit harmful RF waves while indoors dramatically improves AM/FM reception. The exterior casing should be cleaned with a suitable cloth slightly moistened with a liquid detergent when necessary. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio can receive local AM/FM broadcasts in the following countries, geographic regions or continents: U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, United Kingdom, North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and overseas. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket Radio can receive audio from low-powered TV stations in select FM Band radio markets in the United States. Often referred to as TV Channel 6 Audio, these low-powered TV stations are granted authority by the F.C.C. to broadcast English language and mostly foreign language programming on the FM airwaves in large population U.S. cities at a broadcast frequency of 87.75 MHz. F.C.C. Rules permit these licensed TV Channel 6 Stations to operate on the FM Band as long as they broadcast a video signal that can be received by a consumer in that over-the-air TV market. Clearly, the Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio is not compatible with conventional TV Band audio (VHF TV Channels 2-13 discontinued by the F.C.C.) but a number of U.S. customers will be able to take advantage of TV 6 Audio programming in their native language on the FM Band pursuant to a procedural technicality in F.C.C. broadcast regulations. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM 2 Band Radio is a pocket radio icon in the portable audio community. The Sony ICF-S10MK2 AM/FM Pocket Radio offers great build quality, excellent amplifier power, lightweight design, compact size for exceptional portable audio and it performs admirably in tough working surroundings. Overall rating 5 stars. Good Luck. Enjoy. Whats great about it: Accurate Sound, First-Rate Build and Sound Quality Exceeds Price Tag Whats not so great: N/A
