Soon after Lal Bahadur became the Prime Minister, his son got an offer of a highly paid job in a private company. In spite of having been a minister for long, Lal Bahadurs family lived in extreme poverty and financial misery. His son was very excited and came to him with the good news seeking his blessings, saying we wont remain poor any more with such high salary. Shastriji (he never called himself Shastri or used it as a part of his name. Shastri was the degree he had earned from Vidyapeeth after regular completion of the course and passing the examination. He always called himself and signed his name as just Lal Bahadur) told him not to accept the job as it was not something offered to him on his own merits but for just being the son of a prime minister... hence it was actually a bribe. This is what distinguishes Shastriji from other politicians... he remained unpolluted in spite of the evil company of scoundrels like Nehru and Krishna Menon.
