Sorry I havent updated lately...been a busy couple days. On Christmas Eve they performed a tracheotomy. That gave his mouth a break from having all those tubes down it. And having all those tubes can cause his airway to shrink. And we also found out that Dad has a very rare extremely aggressive lung infection. This type of infection causes the lining of the lung to get brittle and paper like and that could ultimately cause a hole in it or cause him to pop a lung. This infection could also cause a puss pocket to attach to the outside of his lung. Theyre going to take him for a CT here in a bit to see if a pocket has formed or not. If there is, theyll have to put in a chest tube to drain it. The doctor said he would be very surprised if Dad doesnt come home on permanent oxygen because the infection does permanent damage. Theyre going to do a bronchostomy on a regular basis. That means they are going to go in and spray the sides of his lung with saline to break up the infection and suck it out. Its full of yuck and this is about the only way theyve been able to get it out. A little while ago they changed the central line tubes that are in his neck to make sure they dont get infected. Hes got a bit of a fever so they drew blood to make sure hes not getting an infection anywhere else. Because your not supposed to have plastic in your body and Dad has a ton of plastic tubes in his, theyre afraid the fevers a sign of an infection starting somewhere else. So the blood work is to narrow that down or rule it out. Ok, thats all I can think of at the moment. And Lord knows thats enough. Ill keep posting updates as I get the information. Please keep us in your prayers.
