JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, Utility Workers safely clean, maintain, and service all District vehicles and maintenance facilities. Work is primarily conducted outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to: Must possess a valid Class C California driver license with a safe driving record (must be able to obtain and maintain a Class B commercial license with air brake and passenger transport endorsements). Must be able to report to work on-time and on a regular/dependable basis. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and work rules, follow proper safety practices, and perform heavy manual labor on a continuous basis in all weather and road conditions; must be able to maintain written records, write clearly and neatly. Mechanical training, knowledge, background, or experience will be considered a plus. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES Fuels buses and checks fluids (i.e., coolant, engine, and transmission oil); accurately records service information in vehicle service records. Safely drives and parks buses and other district vehicles on and off operating base. Thoroughly inspects vehicles and reports defects and damage. Thoroughly cleans and washes exterior, undercarriage, and interior of buses. Sweeps and cleans garages, shops, parking areas, lunchrooms, restrooms, and adjacent offices. Assist mechanics with minor repairs and adjustments. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION Works under the supervision of the Utility Maintenance Supervisor, who assigns areas of work responsibility. Utility Workers are required to join the Amalgamated Transit Union, comply with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, District Standard Operating Procedures, and other work rules. SELECTION PROCESS MAY INCLUDE: 1.) Written and Hands-on mechanical skills assessment examination(s). 2.) Satisfactory completion of medical examination and background investigation. 3.) Application will be screened for minimum qualifications and completeness. 4.) Finalists will be interviewed by a screening and selection panel.
