Sorry for the slight delay Dunc Hardy - been busy and its been tough getting this down to ten! (have had to omit so many fantastic albums - it has pained me greatly! - I would happily have done a Top 40!!!) But here are my current Top Ten Albums of all time. A nice mix of old and new, in no particular order. . . EDITORS - AN END HAS A START - Not a bad track on this lp and it has been enhanced by seeing them live at gigs and festivals - a reliably excellent band. ELBOW - LEADERS OF THE FREE WORLD - Elbows best album by a country mile - but barely acknowledged by the media - Guy Garvey waxing lyrical! RADIOHEAD - THE BENDS - the nearest thing to musical perfection ever? - watched them perform tracks from this on the Beeb @ Glasto and it was spine-tingling stuff. Then even more spine-tingling when Ive seen them live. . . PJ HARVEY - STORIES FROM THE CITY, STORIES FROM THE SEA - PJs most commercial album but this wasnt a bad thing. Polished and classy. MASSIVE ATTACK - Mezzanine - My favourite album ever to listen to in the pitch black, in the early hours - a real slow-burner, a moody beast, a real grower. MORRISSEY - YOU ARE THE QUARRY - This album resonates with me like no other, Mozza at his sardonic and cutting best! Absolute lyrical genius! Plus saw him perform live around this time, a life-time ambition realised! MAZZY STAR - SO TONIGHT THAT I MIGHT SEE - A band I have invested a lot of time in, in the last few years, with ample reward. Great sounds and that voice!!! THE MACCABEES - GIVEN TO THE WILD - Where did this album come from? No indication of them being capable of something this beautiful on their first 2 lps. This was a totally unexpected delight! MANSUN - SIX - Prog-rock, pretentious, crazy concept album that disappeared under the radar - but I absolutely love it! Plus they were the first band I ever saw live! THE NATIONAL - HIGH VIOLET - Probably my most played album of the last few years. Surreal, thoroughly miserable and thoroughly bloody fantastic. This band arrived with this album and I also saw them at Ally Pally last year - majestic! I feel terrible for excluding the likes of The Manics, James, Coldplay, Cat Power, Placebo, Tom McRae, Portishead, Gravenhurst, Glasvegas & British Sea Power from this list. But it is what it is!!! Anyway, I nominate this motley crew to share their Top Ten next! Look forward to seeing at least a few hopefully. . . Go for it Simon Court, Daniel Lee, Donna Marie Malena, Martin Holdridge, Scott Darrington, Andrew Naylor, Billy Sevens, Jonny Huckerby, Ian Patterson & Robin Harris. . .
