Sorry for this rant, Ive tried to contain it. A full-grown man - TopicsExpress

Sorry for this rant, Ive tried to contain it. A full-grown man attacked my son Phoenix. Phoenix had finished a 9 hour shift at work in Meiners Oaks and walked home to downtown Ojai. He cut through a back area (public) and crossed through an apartment complex that people cut through all the time and I have cut through many times over the last 30+ years. Nobody has ever minded before, so its never been an issue. A guy came out, super aggressive, threatened my son and then jumped him. Luckily, my son is pretty tough and has studied multiple martial arts, so it did not end well for this man and my son was unscathed. Police got involved and of course my son was cleared because he was defending himself against blatant assault. My rant is this: why is violence the go-to solution for a problem? We see it everywhere. Someone doesnt like what someone is doing, or the look of someone and they feel entitled to use violence as a first option? We see it with citizens, police, all over. I love my small town and prefer it to the cities Ive lived in, off-and-on for the last few years. I was and am happy to have returned to Ojai, my home, but this is just insane. Just because people have always cut through that apartment doesnt make it ok, I GET that, but attacking a kid? Are you serious? Luckily my son is white or hed probably be in jail. Or shot. So what lessons do I teach my kids from this?
