Sorting out my workroom cupboards…..I have found lots of old sewing needles and thread………they do seem to get everywhere..........but I definitely have to make room for a few of these Hawthorn needles made by Wieteke Opmeer from the Netherlands……....she selects thorns, carves them to shape and protects them with a beeswax polish……. They are all individual and suited for coarser fabrics and felts………..she has also made necklaces from water soluble fabric and wild flower seeds….. in her own words … “The pieces can be worn, but after some time they dissolve slowly by contact with moisture.. When one of the necklaces cannot be worn anymore, or when the owner feels the need to part with it, it can be placed on a nice spot in a natural environment. Here it will dissolve. Later, wild flowers will grow on that spot.”……….. what a lovely idea………..find out more about her here: wietekeopmeer.nl
