Sorting through paperwork, I came across a copy of an interview my cousin gave back in 1983. The maternal side of my family were from Windber. My grandparents, Hungarian Immigrants. Not that I have forgotten the values and stock that I have come from, but it was kind of cool to stumble upon this again. Thrivers in Mine 37. A community of coal miners, living in company homes, and paying up to the Berwind-White Company store. Although I grew up in South Central PA, my mother happened to be visiting 37 (or to some "73") during the 1977 flood. I happened to be on my annual break south of D.C. at that time. Flood of memories these are.
