SoulFood Sometimes, the road to success compels us to be different and to take approaches that are different than others. The five men of the text took a very unorthodox approach to their healing. They were not limited by the fact that it was not at all customary to breakup a roof. When they found that the door was blocked they immediately sought ways to get close to the Lord, even though every traditional way was blocked. They risked the disapproval not only of the owner of the house but also every person thereby interrupting the meeting in order to get their friend to Jesus. They took a very unorthodox route, but it led them to their goal. The believer often searches for a way to accomplish a goal and is not afraid to try a different approach. Dare to be different! That is easier said than done, because being different usually carries with it the stigma of nonconformity. Yet, one of the most salient features of the lives of great men and women is the fact that they had the courage to be different from the rest of the crowd marching toward mediocrity. Climbing to the top of a house with a sick man was certainly different. They defied the status quo. Those who saw the five men must have thought they were crazy, yet they continued. In the same sense, any person today who is faced with a challenge should search for an approach that leads to a resolution. That approach should not exclude the untried and unorthodox. Whatever works for your situation; works!
