Source America highlights: Labor Report Shows More People with Disabilities Employed As the economy continues to grow, more people with disabilities are returning to the workforce. Last Friday, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its monthly employment report which shows that more people with disabilities were employed in December. The employment rate for people with disabilities in December 2014 was 18% compared to 16.5% the previous year. The labor participation rate for working-age (16-64) people with disabilities also increased substantially from 29.1 percent in December 2013 to 31.7 percent in December 2014. At the same time, the labor force participation rate only increased from 70.9 percent in December 2013 to 71.8 percent in December 2014 for the general population. The labor force participation rate is the percentage of the population that is working or actively looking for work. The increase in employment rate and labor force participate rate for people with disabilities correlates with the growth of the overall economy which saw an uptick in people being hired in the previous months.
