Source: PBA.ph REID-RYAN COMBO SHINES AS RAIN OR SHINE ROUTS GLOBALPORT ANTIPOLO CITY. — Arizona Reid came up with his usual monster numbers and Ryan Arana finished with his best scoring game this season as defending champion Rain or Shine routed Globalport 94-74 for the early solo lead in the Governors’ Cup Saturday at the Ynares Center here. The Best Import winner in this very same tournament two years ago, Reid tallied 27 points, 17 rebounds and five assists — all game-highs — while Arana added a personal season-best 21 as the Elasto Painters followed up their 79-75 conference-opening day decision over San Mig Coffee with the tourney’s first blowout win. “Malaking bagay sa short conference format yung 2-0. The best chance you get to go to the next round is win early,” said Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao of their back-to-back wins which is halfway through duplicating their 4-0 start en route to winning their franchise’s first-ever championship in the league last year. Paul Lee added 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Elasto Painters who carved out the win even with Gilas Pilipinas stalwarts Gabe Norwood and Jeff Chan playing only meager minutes. “We’re trying to get Gabe and Jeff back into their regular rhythm. Gaganda pa yung laro namin kung nakabalik na talaga sila,” said Guiao, adding he was satisfied with the way Reid has been his usual self. “Masaya ako kay Reid. He’s working hard on the boards and he shot better now. I’m just looking for the guys to blend well,” the seven-time PBA champion coach added. Rain or Shine, which held an opponent to no more than 75 points for the second straight game, took control of the match by doubling Globalport’s output in the second period 20-10 to turn a 21-23 deficit after the first 12 minutes of play into a 41-33 halftime lead. Reid and Arana actually combined to outscore the entire Batang Pier squad in that breakaway second period. The Elasto Painters, who held Globalport to a conference-low 31.7% shooting from the field, poured it on in the second half, posting its biggest lead via the final score. Import Markieth Cummings led the Batang Pier with his 23 points and 14 boards but only Sol Mercado scored in double figures for the Batang Pier locals with his 13 in the game which also the return to action of another Gilas Pilipinas standout Gary David. David, however, played in just 12 minutes and finished with just three markers.
