South Africa Day 9 Today was a day with the animals. We left the hotel at the crack of dawn. That is right, we saw the sun rise from our open air jeep so that we could be in the park when it opened at 5:30 am. We spent twelve hours winding through just a small fraction of the park. All of us had the assignment to be on the lookout for the animals. We were not to be embarrassed if we reported the sighting of a rockapotomus. We instead sighted four of the “Big Five.” The leopard evaded us. We sighted…. The African Lion, The almost extinct wild dog The Buchel’s zebra The spotted hyaena The vervet monkey The Chacma baboon The hippopotamus The white rhinoceros The warthog The African elephant..note the ears are in the shape of Africa The African buffalo…We were incredibly lucky to see a rare albino buffalo The bushbuck The kudu And the impala…note this animal is known as the McDonalds of Kruger for several reasons. It is found everywhere he is eaten by many and it has an “M” on its butt. We saw too many birds to even list. The day was wonderful. With a heavy heart, we leave the animals tomorrow. We are on an adventure.
