South African Communist Party, North West, 20 March 2014 Provincial Executive Committee statement The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the North West province held a successful PEC meeting from the 14th to 16th March 2014 in the Moses Kotane district, Rustenburg. The meeting was addressed by Central Committee member, Comrade Charles Setsubi, and Cde Mpho Khunou, ANC PEC member. The meeting also received an input on the state of higher education in the province. The meeting reflected on the current socio-economic challenges facing the country and the working class globally. We also analysed the current political period leading to the national elections scheduled to take place on the 07th May 2014. Alliance The meeting concluded that, we should work for the unity and cohesion of the alliance especially during this period when the enemy of the national democratic revolution has deployed its agents in our organizations to sow divisions. We were reminded of what Cde Samora Machel said about sifting the enemy from within our ranks: “The other face is that of the indirect and secondary enemy, who presents himself under the cover of a nationalist and even as a revolutionary thus making it difficult to identify him... The fighter must distinguish friend from foe even if the latter is concealed under the same colour, language family ties or tribal markings as their own, even if he raises his flag with us.” We have recently observed the enemies of the revolution, after using the congress movement as a stepping stone, showing us their reactionary true characters. We are clear on one thing: our revolution is not dependent on individuals because they all join the organizations voluntarily and are therefore free to leave if they feel there is a political rupture between them and the organizations. The emergence of the puritanical tendency by the so called orthodox Marxists is something that will need patience and discipline for us as communists. Our role is to ensure that the revolutionary class is not misled by opportunists. Cde Mao warned us in his, Introductory note to Material on the Hu Feng Counter-Revolutionary Clique (May 1955).when, he said: “Idealism and metaphysics are the easiest things in the world, because people can talk as much nonsense as they like without basing it on objective reality or having it tested against reality. Materialism and dialectics, on the other hand, need effort. They must be based on and tested by objective reality. Unless one makes the effort one is liable to slip into idealism and metaphysics. The PEC concluded that, we have a revolutionary duty to defeat the backward tribal politics that is pursued by Zwelinzima Vavi and Irvin Jim, because it will divide the working class and sow dangerous seeds for the entire nation. We have seen the danger of tribal wars in Rwanda and many parts of Africa. As one member of the Rwanda Patriotic Front, once said during the mass slaughter in the country: “The terms Hutu and Tutsi are merely ideological constructs, describing different relationships to the means and mode of production.” On the ANC The PEC further concluded that we need a united and decisive ANC PEC that will be politically clear in order to lead the alliance. Action should be taken against those, who are politically ill-disciplined and who continue to turn our organization into money making stokvel. As part of our anti-corruption campaign, we call on the ANC leadership to be hard on those who are corrupt and use state resources to further their political agendas. We should name and shame them. The SACP will expose internal efforts by some to undermine our revolution and sabotage the ANC. We call on the ANC not to tolerate the current situation where individuals deployed to government undermine the collective of the ANC in the province. The PEC should reign in these individuals in a more decisive manner. On COSATU The party will continue to ensure that the struggle of the working class is not undermined by continually engaging with most of its affiliates of COSATU. We shall continue to provide the necessary support to the struggles of the workers in their respective sectors. We shall engage the department of labour and government to look into the conditions of the workers in the retail, mining, farming sectors. The progressive legislations passed by the ANC government should be implemented without fail. The SACP will further engage with COSATU on the establishment of a trade union political commission. We reiterate our call for the paramount unity of all affiliates of the federation in the province. Strike in the platinum belt A strike is not an end but a means to an end. Workers in the platinum belt must rise against the demagogues of the likes of AMCU’S Mathunjwa, who is leading the workers down a destructive path. The man is getting richer by the day, while workers are losing wages from a poorly managed strike. Workers were promised a revolution that is yet to materialize after three years, while Mathunjwa’s lifestyle resembles that of a showbiz personality. Workers should not be led by a leadership that is dishonest, cynical and careerist. Workers should consider their welfare and go back to strengthen the NUM. Higher education and training We welcome the appointment of the NWU’s, Vice Chancellor, Professor Kgoadi and hope that his leadership will help with the transformation of the North West University especially the Potchefstroom campus. We call on all South Africans to support the minister of higher education and training in his move to review autonomy of university councils. The state of affairs in the higher learning institutions is shameful and unpardonable and needs strong and decisive leadership. The SACP in the province, working with the alliance partners, will work to eradicate racism in the North West education sector. On the national election A comprehensive elections program to enhance work by the ANC focusing on labour was endorsed. Working will COSATU and its affiliates, the Chris Hani Red Brigades will be deployed to all working sectors to campaign for the overwhelming victory of the ANC in the province. We call on all members of the federation and communities in the North West not to waste their votes but cast them for the ANC because it is the only party capable of delivering on its manifesto. The ANC commits while others promise!! Issued by SACP North West
