South Australia Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS For people in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Murraylands, Upper South East, Lower South East and parts of the West Coast and Eastern Eyre Peninsula districts. Issued at 3:28 am Sunday, 18 August 2013. A deep low pressure system over well south of South Australia will move eastwards to be south of Tasmania later tonight. The low is generating a broad and vigorous northwest to westerly airstream across the southern half of South Australia. A front associated with this low will cross southern districts this morning, bringing another period of heavier showers, isolated thunderstorms and some small hail. Localised damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h remain possible in the south of the warning area at first this morning, mostly about the coasts with showers. Northwest to westerly winds of 50-65 km/h and wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are expected to develop over southern parts of the warning area during this morning and extend throughout the warning area during the day. The Mount Lofty Ranges and near coastal areas are most likely to be affected by these damaging winds. Locations which may be affected include Port Lincoln, Warooka, Kingscote, Adelaide, Mount Barker and Mount Gambier. A wind gust of 98 km/h was recorded at Cape Borda at 2.10 am. A few minutes earlier, a wind gust of 93 km/h was recorded at Neptune Island where winds were averaging 65 to 75 km/h. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
