South Lincoln School did sustain substantial damage. A school bus was picked up by one of the tornadoes and sent through the schools front office, said Dr. Wanda Shelton, director of schools. Perhaps only a quarter of the school is left undamaged. Three-fourths of the schools roof is gone, and the front of the school is gone, she said, but no one was injured in the building. Children had been sent home this morning. Insurance people will be coming to the school in the morning, but I dont think well be able to inhabit the school this year ... Of course tomorrow (Tuesday) we will not be having school, but the big problem will be to figure out what to do with 600 kids when we do return to session. Shelton said that as far as she is aware, no damage was sustained at nearby Flintville Elementary School -- Weve had staff there examining the structure, and there doesnt appear to be any damage, she said, adding, though, that the lack of power prevented a thorough check. There are no schools in Lincoln County tomorrow. Lincoln County and Fayetteville school systems, as well as Riverside Christian Academy, have cancelled classes.
