South Mugirango Member of Parliament, Manson Nyamweya, has threatened to resign from Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over its undemocratic handling of the upcoming Siaya gubernatorial by-election. Speaking in Kisii yesterday, Nyamwaya noted that he cannot put up with ODM’s dictatorship any further, citing the recent direct nomination of immediate former Siaya Governor, Cornell Rasanga, to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming by-election, saying the party failed to observe internal democracy. He said the move by Raila Odinga and his team to give Rasanga a direct nomination instead of encouraging healthy competition was a sign of a sinking party that has no respect for democracy. Nyamweya further said the by-election presented a good opportunity for ODM to redeem its image after shambolic party primaries ahead of the March 4th elections, but the leaders threw it away, saying he can’t continue being part of the party that does not respect democracy. As a result, Nyamweya threatened to quit ODM for more democratic parties within Uhuru/ Ruto’s Jubilee Coalition.
